SR120m Tech Institute to Be Set Up in Riyadh With Malaysian Help
Mohammed Rasooldeen, Arab News

RIYADH, 27 May 2006 — The Kingdom will set up an Information Communications Technology training institute in Riyadh in cooperation with Malaysia. The proposed venture is estimated to cost SR120 million. The Kingdom has allocated SR3 billion for e-government projects over the next five years.

“The Multimedia Development Corporation and four private sector companies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed a letter of intent to set up the Information and Communications Technology Training Institute in the capital,” Malaysian Ambassador Ismail Haji Ibrahim told Arab News yesterday.

The letter of intent to establish the institute was signed between the MDeC and four Saudi establishments when a 16-member Saudi delegation headed by Abdul Aziz A. Jasser, ICT committee chairman of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, visited Kuala Lumpur recently. The four Saudi companies that inked the agreement included Malaz Group, Tech Invest Communication and Information Technology and Engineering Applications and the Arabian Advanced Systems.

“Malaysia has a unique experience in developing technical institutions,” the envoy said, pointing out that this is the second e-project that will be carried out in the Kingdom with the cooperation of Malaysian expertise.

Last year, the two countries signed an agreement for eMadinah project to channel government and business sectors to operate using information and communication technologies. Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Madinah Governor Prince Miqren witnessed the signing ceremony held in Madinah.

“eMadinah is the first of its kind not only in Saudi Arabia but in the whole the region,” the envoy said. The project included five concurrent tracks on business, technology, human resources, program and change management and knowledge management.

“The setting up of an ICT training institute in Riyadh is one of the areas identified by the 16-member Saudi ICT delegation,” Multimedia Development Corp (MDC) said in a statement yesterday.

Al-Jasser said the initiative is expected to attract Malaysian technical institutions to partner with Saudi companies in establishing and running the institute. The joint committee will also look into the establishment of a Saudi-Malaysia ICT Fund to spearhead private sector investments in both countries.

The committee will jointly explore collaborative projects in the areas of ICT and multimedia including data recovery and hosting services, technology park development, public-private partnership collaboration on egovernment projects, content/media and computer-based engineering services.

Jemput la datang Riyadh.. nanti saya belanja kabsah!

QUOTE
Kabsa Arabic: كبسة is a family of rice dishes that are served in Arab Countries along the Perisan Gulf. These dishes are mainly made from a mixture of spices, rice (usually basmati), meat & vegetables. There are many kinds of Kabsa and each kind has a uniqueness about it. Pre-mixed Kabsa spices from different commercial names are easily available in markets these days, which reduces the preparation time though the taste differs considerably. The spices and condiments used in Kabsa are what primarily contribute to the taste; these are generally Black Pepper, Cloves, Curry, Cardamom, Saffron, Cinnamon, Black lime, Bay Leaves and Nutmeg, apart from Almonds, Pine nuts, Onions and Tomatoes. The main ingredient that accompanies the spices is the meat—chicken, goat, lamb, camel, or sometimes fish and shrimps. Meat is cooked in various ways. A popular way of preparing meat is called Mandi. This utilizes ancient techniques of cooking, first employed when man discovered fire, where meat is barbecued in a deep hole in the ground that is covered while the meat cooks. Another unique way of preparing and serving meat is Mathbi where seasoned meat is grilled on flat stones that are placed on top of burning embers. Madghoot (Pressurized) is where meat is cooked in a Pressure cooker. Kabsa is considered a staple dish throughout Saudi Arabia.

I hope MDeC does good in Saudi what it has done bad here.

Maybe if they are abroad, they have more pride and enthusiasm to not only complete the job,but also to make their best effort. So far, since 1996,most of MDC/MdEc project has been anything short of success. The CEO and management though have been changed many times and corporate rebranding, these VP's continue getting paid expensively by the tax payers money and not giving out what is due from them. tongue.gif

MoU are just MoU,my previous big boss at Business Focus/PSC signed thousands of MoU from Russian to Timbaktu, from aerospace to building sampan, not even 1/4 materialized, and now he and his family has fled Malaysia, some say he can be found in Dubai, fleeing prosecution back home biggrin.gif.

It sounds exaggerated - the E-Madinah Project.

hopefully another Silicon valley alike project is not another guinea pig.

Hehehhehee...mana la ko pegi cari gambar.

Yes,tapi aku answerable to anak dia,Director,Azlan Shah.

Muda lagi.

Mcm2 MoU dia sign, even dengan IMKEDA - pusat belajar memandu. Dia nak buat E-Lesen...one stop portal untuk nak apply templat blaja memandu. Big boss IMKEDA turun,yela...anak Tan Sri panggil. Aku dok dengar je dalam meeting tuh...hmmph tongue.gif

Bukan skeptikal dengan MdEC and E-Madinah nih...its just that...track record MDC sehingga dia jadi MDeC ni...tak secerah pawarna hehehehe. Malap2...macam gerhana bulan...kalau anak Tan Sri Samsuddin Osman (ex-KSN) tak keje kat MDC,memang dah lama tutup kedai. Pasal bapak dia KSN,so dia boleh mintak daddy suruh 'Pembendeharaan' inject $$$ untuk cost of operation MDC since MDC ni bukan profit making.

and now E-Madinah?

eh berjaya apa. kampeni kat MSC tu tak semestinya kat MSC,ada table/partition je dah cukup, opis kat tempat lain pun takpe.

so kalau Cyberjaya tu tak crowded, jangan diukur guna ukuran tu...

QUOTE
MDeC, Mimos Sign Saudi project deal

The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and ICT research and development company Mimos Bhd signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (Sagia) in Madinah yesterday.

The MoUs marked Malaysia's participation in the Knowledge Economic City (KEC), which is one of the kingdom's biggest development projects, MDeC said in a press release.

Sagia is working with a consortium of Saudi companies, including Seera City Real Estate Development Company, to develop KEC, a 25 billion Saudi Riyal (RM23bil) knowledge-based industrial development covering 4.8 million sq m. MDeC will be a consultant for the project.

In Jeddah, MDeC and Mimos signed another MoU, with the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) for the provision of ICT development solutions to member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Conference.

MDeC, meanwhile, announced plans to open a second Saudi Arabian representative office in the capital, Riyadh. Its first representative office was opened in Jeddah in 2005.

I'll give you a simple success measurement, the very basic - Return On Investment %.

1. Total investment for MSC (land acqusition, building etc )

2. Total profit from MSC (revenues from MSC status company- quite inaccurate since its an open secret that most companies only want the 10 years tax free status) products and innovation out of MSC etc etc and best of all,how Malaysian in general livelihood/quality of living have improved with MSC? Flying cars anyone tongue.gif

What significange does MSC has on public universities, have all of them become Wheelers Lab of MIT or thier graduates become in high demands like India Institute of Technology (Delhi)

calculate the ROI.

Have MSC even 'broke even' the cost of thier capital expenditure for the entire gargantuan projects?

Then add also the 9 flagship (flagsh*t) projects that's either failed or have not achieved the total target.

Get the numbers, and do the same maths on,let say,Hong Kong Cyberport or Singapore or a far off yardstick Silicon Valley.

There's your answer blink.gif

Just because one becomes an US ally, doesn't mean they catch even the breath of development. Check out Philiphines. The only decent place in the whole of Manila is Makati Business District. Other places in the city, traffic lights and roads are like 50 years backwards and you can see people living under the flyovers and take showers in thier cardboard-houses. Even McDonalds have security guards.

I guess the Arabs didn't make good of their relationship with the US,unlike Singapore,Japan,Taiwan or Korea.
